Shade and Illuminate Soft Radiance Foundation SPF 50

My skin is super dry, I’m 47 with mature skin. I can’t count the amount of foundations I have tried but this one rocks. My only complaint is it disappears around my nose and chin. I’ve tried setting it but I have to reapply. I’m ok with it, as I LOVE the finish the f this foundation!

First thing that can be said about Tom Ford Shade & Illuminate Soft Radiance Foundation is that the bottle has a luxurious quality. It is very aesthetic, solid and heavy. (I guess it would work out for those little dreamers who practice acceptance speeches for some of those Grammy or Oscars :D ).

The product smells like lavender. The consistency is very watery, but extremely pigmented. I would not put it ‘into’ a sponge. What I like to do is to pump it right onto my face and then blend it fast with a brush or beauty blender - not too wet and not to dry.

Right after application it looks good, but it needs a few minutes to dry to really show its effect and it does not oxidize (I had the lightest shade). While looking at my face in the mirror there is a huge difference between looking at it just from a close up and looking from a distance, specifically when a lot of ambient light is around. That distance creates something that gives an effect that is similar to an actual smoothing photo filter. I guess it happens because the foundation reflects the light in all directions. The texture of the skin like pores or fine lines seem blurred and the face looks good from different angles.

It is not a usual foundation and I was testing it in different ways. I don’t really need an under eye concealer with it, and I found out that using different primers, would make application literally impossible for me. I ended up using a rose water based toner. The foundation does not need any setting powder (interesting, since I have oily skin). To be honest using setting/mattifying powder, actually worsened the effect I was writing about. There is one finishing powder though that I found out works really nice with this foundation, Meteorites by Guerlain.

I don’t really want to write about its price. I will only say that while using it I can skip concealer, primer, setting powder, and SPF. Yes the 50 SPF level is very impressive too.

It is not functional to carry around in purse, because it’s quite a heavy bottle, but it stays on face all day so I guess it is not really a problem. It would be perfect if o n the top of this it was waterproof.

I received this product complimentary for review by influenster. I was beyond excited to receive the shade 6.5 Sable because it was pretty much a spot on match to my skin tone! Before I even opened the package; I was almost scared to fall in love with it because of the hefty price tag, but I’ve always been a believer of you get what you pay for! As soon as I opened the box I was amazed by how unbelievably beautiful the packaging was! Pure luxury and I was crossing my fingers that what was inside was just as great. The first thing that stood out to me was the smell. Not the biggest fan of the potent scent of the SPF but I was glad that over time the scent faded. I’m very sensitive to smell so that In all honesty was almost a deal breaker for me! The coverage was pretty sheer, I did have to use about 3-4 pumps and layer to get my desired coverage. I applied initially with a brush and then switched to a beauty blender. The coverage was very breathable, and left me skin looking plump with a subtle glow and overall just looking healthy and youthful. I wore for about 10-12 hours and there was no fading or need to retouch. The 2nd time I used the foundation I used a stickier base and it did separate so I don’t recommend mixing. Overall I’m impressed with this product. I’m using it on special occasions and when I want to look extra polished!

I can’t believe this foundation! It’s like a filter for the face. I hate taking pictures of myself. I avoid looking in mirrors. My skin has never been the best. I can’t stop looking at my skin. It is the most beautiful foundation I’ve ever bought.

I was so hopeful for this, as I typically love Tom Ford products, especially the foundations. It applies beautifully and blends easily, the coverage is a solid medium and can be built up to nearly full, the finish is beautifully luminous without being shiny or greasy...it is more a pearly gossamer-like effect. Be aware if you’re sensitive to fragrance or lavender, this one does strongly smell of lavender but it fades after a few minutes. Unfortunately, despite the luminous finish, this foundation makes my skin feel very dry and tight after an hour or so, and my pores become very visible. Because of the dryness, my fine lines become very apparent as well, which is the opposite of what I hoped for with this formula. My skin is mature and typically in the normal-to-dry range, but sadly even after trying various primers and amping up my skincare, something in this formula still dries me out badly. I wear shade 3.5 Ivory Rose in this one, but I’m typically in the 1.5-2.0 range of TF foundations. I will say, the wear time is fabulous and it stays on even through a trip to the gym! I hate that it doesn’t work with my skin chemistry, because otherwise, it’s a beautiful foundation!

First I want to say that the packaging is exactly what I expect from Tom Ford. It is heavy and luxurious and I love that it comes with a pump applicator for convenience and cleanliness. As for the formula, you can definitely smell and feel the SPF that is incorporated into the product. That may not be an issue for some, but for people with sensitive skin like myself, I would just be cautious if considering purchasing this product. I found it to be medium coverage with a soft focus finish and it didn’t feel too heavy on my skin. It was tacky upon application but that was fixed with setting powder. Although it is supposed to be dewy, I didn’t find it to be too greasy and I didn’t find it to accentuate my combination skin or oily t zone. Overall, it’s not the best nor the worst foundation I have ever tried.

I was surprised at the range of shades available, definitely a plus. smelled really good (be cautious if u have sensitive skin), consistency wasnt too thick or thin. A pump and a half, and i had achieved desired coverage. My main concern is acne scarring, this foundation covered it up with ease. I think im ready to replace my everyday foundation.

I like the coverage and the fact that it has spf in it but I feel like this would look great on someone with perfect skin, I felt that it was clinging to all my pores and dry patches. I received this complimentary in exchange for an honest review, I got shade 7.5 and It’s too light for me (I normally wear tahoe/syracuse from nars for reference) but regardless, I don’t see myself spending that much for this foundation just because it doesnt really work for my skin type but I see it how it would work perfectly for other people.

Love this foundation! I almost wish I didn't, with a price tag like that lol. The fact that there's great skin care ingredients and 50spf is awesome. My skin feels dewy but not oily, and while it doesn't last super long, it fades away gracefully and I don't end up looking like a hot mess at the end of the day. It looks really natural. I hate foundation that looks cakey but I can hardly tell I have this on. It does a good job camouflaging my redness and blemishes, although if I have something very red or dark I'll have to build it up in that area. I was really hoping I hate this but damn, I guess I'm buying $150 foundation from now on. Packaging is *chef's kiss* I received this product complimentary for review purposes.

I am absolutely impressed with this foundation! This is a lightweight formula that blends in beautifully with the skin and lasts all day without any touch ups, no matter the activity, whether it’s a workout at home or or taking a walk outside in the South Florida humid and sunny afternoons. I had high hopes for this, being Tom Ford and having claims of giving off a luminous look while still looking natural and this completely surpassed all expectations I had. It’s buildable without caking and gives off the feeling like I’m not wearing any foundation at all. Even on days I don’t go out, I love reaching for this because it’s so comfortable to wear. Even though it is medium coverage, I still love that it looks like I’m not wearing any foundation and looks like my natural skin but at its very best. I didn’t notice any oxidation with this product, which is a huge plus for me. I do want to note there is a very light scent reminiscent of sunscreen, but it isn’t overwhelming nor does it linger. I cannot stop raving about this foundation and love that I got a chance to try this, because I wouldn’t have considered this before because of the price tag but it is worth every single penny. I will definitely be replenishing this once I run out since I love that it works as a foundation beautifully while looking and feeling natural, offering nourishing and hydrating skincare benefits, keeps my skin protected with SPF50 and overall makes my skin look naturally radiant.
