Matrixyl is a synthetic peptide that research indicates not only helps soften fine lines, but works to helps skin repair itself and is highly effective for anti-aging. Through this formulation, you're getting effective, beneficial peptides. Peptides penetrate skin to promote skin-cell health while calming skin and promoting cell repair. That process is crucial to anti-aging.
The addition of Hyaluronic Acid in the form of Sodium Hyaluronate is a nice plus because it will provide a lovely dose of moisture to the skin without feeling oily. Those who have very dry may find they need more moisture, but this layers nicely and so that's a plus. I was hoping this would be more hydrating, but it's still nice. You should see improved softening in the skin with diligent use.
If you want to boost your anti-aging routine, this would pair nicely with their Advanced Retinoid to stimulate collagen/cell turnover...and also, Buffet, which brings in more peptides but also would add Amino Acids and more soothing moisture. If you layer The Ordinary's excellent Rosehip oil, you can bring in much-needed antioxidants. This should work with all skin types without issue, including acne-prone skin and oily skin.
Another consideration would be to add CoQ10, which is available at Vitacost online in a lovely, soothing toner for around $8. They also offer a delightful cream for under $15. (Very little is needed) Fellow Beautylish member, Ms. Jacqueline, introduced me to the CSI line at Vitacost and their prices are on par with The Ordinary so I did think that was worth a mention.
If you're on the fence about this product, know that it's a highly affordable way to bring peptides into your skincare. But you may already be getting enough peptides through your other skincare products. That's something to consider. In my view, this isn't a stand-alone product and I'd instead view it as a very nice, affordable addition to a much broader, anti-aging skin care and hydrating regimen. (It feels quite nice on the skin).
I would certainly recommend this or gift this, but I find I get a ton of peptides and hydration through my other core skincare products and so I'm not sure I would repurchase this . I'm currently still enjoying the bottle, which does last quite a while since so little product is needed.
I agree with the poster who wishes The Ordinary would talk a little bit more about why this may or may not be a good choice for your personal skincare needs. I've tried to explain a bit more in my reviews for this purpose. Hope it is of help to you.
I love The Ordinary. Their products are exactly as advertised or lack there of...effective and inexpensive. I was using a serum that was $100/oz. in the morning and a serum/oil that was also $100/oz. in the evening and it was good but was not addressing all of my concerns, not to mention I was buying new bottles once every two months. Now for less than $100 I am able to address all of my concerns and I can see my supply lasting me at least 4 months.
I will admit in the beginning it's tough to figure out but with a lot of consideration after reading both The Ordinary's website and calling Beautylish's customer service number I was able to figure out my custom regimen for my 32 year old skin with concerns around aging(wrinkles), mild breakouts, undereye dark circles and hyperpigmentation. Morning: 1.)cleanse(Sunday Riley) 2.)toning mist (Jurlique) 3.)Caffeine Solution 5% + EGCG 4.)Niacinamide 10% + Zinc 1% 5.)The Buffet 6.)Matrixyl 10% + HA 7.)Natural Moisturizing Factors + HA then I apply my makeup. I can feel my skin tighten as it plumps any lines for smooth skin before I apply my primer. Evening: 1.)Remove makeup with cleansing balm (Sunday Riley) 2.)cleanse (Sunday Riley) 3.)Gel toner(Sunday Riley) 4.)Caffeine Solution 5% + EGCG 5.)Alpha Arbutin 2% + HA 6.)Every other night I switch between Advanced Retinoid 2% and Lactic Acid 5% + HA 2% 7.)Hyaluronic Acid 2% + B5 8.)Moisturize (Sunday Riley) 9.) 100% Organic Cold-Pressed Rose Hip Seed Oil. I wake up so moisturized and my skin feels like as if it is brand new skin. It honestly freaks me out how smooth it is!
I know it seems like a lot but I am serious about keeping my skin healthy and youthful so I can avoid surgical or harsh procedures as long as I can. So if your in for a little bit of effort to figure out your routine you can make your own customized and potent serum cocktail at a fraction of the cost of what the luxury brands tell you have to pay for something that works.
I started using Matrixyl many years ago but I paid $95. for a bottle. I started in the 1990's. I could not afford to be spending that kind of money, but I was concerned about aging, and the effects of sun and pollution. I am so pleased with this product and the ability to continue using Matrixyl and such an excellent product as this for fractions of the price. A great big thank you to The Ordinary! P.S. I am 65 years old now and want to maintain all that I can!
I've been using this serum twice daily for a few weeks now and the difference in my skin is astounding. I no longer get little flakes and my skin feels more plump and hydrated. I especially notice a difference after a microneedling session which tends to leave my skin red and flakey. This soothes and hydrates my skin so well. I always wear this underneath a moisturizer and it seems to boost the effects of the moisturizer. I'm very acne prone and have not noticed any breakouts or irritation from it.
I've only been using this for a little over a week now but I can already feel the difference to my skin! My skin feels so soft. I've been using it as an eye serum also and it has help with hydration under my eyes and all over my face. I will be stocking up I have not had any issues at all with any of the products I have received and started using for The Ordinary I'm loving them all. I suggest you read the information about each product to see what would be best for your skin issues and start with just a couple then add on if you need to.
This is the second purchase I have made for the Ordinary Matrixyl & HA. I have tried some of the other Ordinary products and overall I really do like this brand, but the Matrixyl and Niacinimide are the ones I find myself using on a daily basis. As a result my pores have never looked cleaner, and my skin feel smoother.
