Product Description
About Sonia G. Inochige Pro
In calligraphy, a brush is more than a writing tool, it symbolizes the extension of the mind and the body of the calligrapher. From the very bottom of the handle to the very top of the bristles [the Inochige], this brush was inspired by the art of calligraphy, adapting its purpose to fit those of the make-up artist. Inochige is the most important and precious part in a calligraphy brush, it's the heart of the brush.
Using this brush feels like a unique experience; it is very dense at the base, the density decreases halfway up where it becomes just airy enough so that the bristles that touch the skin move easily. It does not move the product around but applies it with the most satisfying control.
Because of its medium size and its shape, it blooms to provide great versatility. It is fantastic to set the foundation with pressed or loose powders, a dream with bronzer or powders to contour and add structure to the face but it also works wonders when it comes to blush application.
- Powder application
- Adding dimension to the face structure
- Bronzer application
- Finishing - setting or blending
Why It’s Special
- Each brush is handbound by master artisans in Japan using traditional brushmaking techniques for unparalleled performance and craftsmanship.
- The sturdy handle is made from dense, sustainably harvested maple wood and coated with four layers of pigment and lacquer for a rich, dimensional finish.

I have not liked Sonia g eye brushes at all. So I was hesitant to buy this brush. I waited 6 months to look at reviews and had an internal debate with myself. I finally decided to just buy it. I use this for bronzer. I have 1 Mac bronzer brush, 2 tom ford bronzer brushes and 2 Charlotte Tilbury bronzer brushes- all discontinued now otherwise, I’d have bought several more Tom ford. Is this brush as nice as Tom ford? No. Is it worth 75? No. I’d say it’s worth about 55. That why I took away 1 Star. It’s overpriced. Do I like the brush? Yes. I’ll probably buy another one. I did post on Instagram elizabethspencer8 on beautylish that I didn’t like her eye brushes and Sonia g blocked me. So she lost a star for being immature as well. She should have asked me why I didn’t like the eye brushes. I’ll tell you- they are too stiff. Wayne Goss is WAY better! He’s a brush god to me!

Pic: Chikuhodo T-1, Sonia G Inochige Pro, RMK Cheek, Chikuhodo MK-MO. (All washed, all currently in use except MK-MO, hence the powder on the Inochige. It shows you their ‘real’ state and fluffiness.)
Yet another Sonia G brush I love. This is my daily workhorse for loose setting powder (Hourglass in that annoying golden curved container lol... this is perfect for getting powder off the black lid). I love it more than my Chikuhodo T1 because it is softer and tapered just beautifully.
The flatter-looking part of the tapered surface supports packing on powder/baking, while the flexibility of the tip helps with easy access around the nose and hairline without getting powder through your hair.
The altering density from the middle to tip means you get this amazing flexibility and lightness toward the tip allowing for delicate and light application, while still having the power of a soft but mid-density-feeling brush to swirl around in circles in a more traditional buffing technique. I didn’t think it could do that - it did. It thought buffing would feel weird on my skin with this shaped head, it wasn’t, because she has somehow balanced it so that it works and can act as a small buffer or a larger buffer.
She is so incredibly clever to balance the hair type, size, length, and density so that it became a multi-functional brush from packing on, to gently buffing, to a delicate, light, targeted, application.
I find it too large to powder under my eyes but use it for that when I’m in a hurry. It did have a goat smell on arrival but that has disappeared - it’s now a month since I purchased it. This is the first brush (I have 20+ of her brushes) that has ever had that odour.
I was one of the people who begged Beautylish to bring in singles of the pro face set when it was released because I really wanted to try this brush. I had been haunting the website daily for months lol! Thank you Beautylish and Sonia G for making it possible!

I purchased this in the face pro set and see it doesn't have 5 stars so I am giving my opinion because it absolutely should!! This brush is an investment certainly but as with all Sonia G brushes it is well worth it. The price would be only thing I could imagine anyone complaining about but when you hold and use this brush you see why it is priced the way it is. I will admit I am sort of an amateur when it comes to handcrafted FACE brushes, owning a handful more face brushes, on top of the face pro set and most recently the sky face set. (Others are WG & Smith) Even with my limited hands on knowledge I can confidently say this brush is worth every penny. It's flexibility toward the tip but dense enough in the middle of the brush making it perfect for a number of things. I have semi-baked with it,pressing the powder along the sides of my nose while not having it all along my eyeline where I do not want an excess of powder(to avoid excess creasing!!) It is perfect for doing so but again, this brush can perform anyway you want. Seamless bronzer blending, blush, setting and even buffing if need be. I guess thats why these are known for being workhorse brushes. I highly recommend this brush along with any of/the whole face pro set. Or any SG brushes, honestly. You cannot go wrong, imho. Did I mention how soft they are? Let me throw that in there since that makes such a huge difference when applying makeup. SO,SO soft. It's really something you have to experience yourself. Love, love, love!

I left a similar review for the Pro Cheek brush, I love this brush for precise powder application but I don't love that it sheds every time I use it. I've had it for a few months, washed it a few times, and it still sheds a couple hairs with every use. Amazing powder brush and wonderfully soft but it's annoying to have to pick hairs off my face every time I use it. Strangely, both this brush and the cheek brush also smelled very strongly like a petting zoo when I first got them, but it has worn down a bit with repeated washings. I have her pro eye set and the Sculpt Three as well and didn't experience shedding or any strange smell with those brushes.

Finally found the perfect brush for brontouring with! My other brushes as shown in the photo are super soft and appropriate for very pigmented powders. The Inochige however is the perfect brush to use as the design allows it to pick up enough product and diffuse it with an airbrush effect without any effort at all. I highly recommend this brush. Im seriously contemplating on getting a second 1 as a back up!

This is one of my FAVORITE brushes in my collection, hands down. It applies bronzer flawlessly, especially for my smaller face shape, and the unique shape is perfect for precise application. I have not had any shedding issues with this brush at all and I've washed it several times. I'm waiting for it to come back in stock so I can pick up another!

This is my first experience using a Sonia G face brush and I’m blown away!
The quality of this brush is superb and the bristles feel soft and gentle on the skin. The ergonomic design is both practical and aesthetically pleasing. The tapered handle feels comfortable to hold and the medium sized tapered teardrop shape and flexibility makes it suitable for multiple different tasks.
My favourite way to use this brush is to set foundation with translucent powder and bronze the perimeter of the face. However, it can also be used to set undereye concealer, apply blush, contour or buff setting powder.
Something to bare in mind:
Due to the phenomenon of “floating hairs” this handmade brush will probably shed a few hairs at first, but it’s perfectly normal and nothing to be alarmed by. The brush isn’t faulty, it’s just that the artisans over fill the ferrule during the manufacturing process and it’s those excess hairs that fall away during initial use. The shedding should stop after 4-5 washes with a gentle brush soap.

I have started investing in Sonia G brushes, and I mostly purchase individual brushes. I am glad that this was the first face brush from Sonia G that I purchased, because for my purposes, it is very versatile. I have a small face, so the Face Pro didn't make a lot of sense, even though I do appreciate its shape. I like the fact that I can use both bronzer and blush with this brush and get more targeted application. I definitely prefer this to the Wayne Goss 00 brush, as that has not aged well for me and has become more scratchy over time. I also really prefer the teardrop brushes in general, and have added this to the regular rotation.
For reference, I own a lot of different types of brushes, from Sonia G, Wayne Goss, Rephr, Scott Barnes. For face brushes, I reach for this Inochige Brush and my Wayne Goss Synthetic 25S and Wayne Goss Air Brush the most.
